Fernandina Beach’s newest Publix has announced an opening date — and it comes after months of limited grocery options for island residents.
The new store, located at 1421 Sadler Road in the Island Walk Shopping Center, is set to open Thursday, July 2, at 7 a.m. It replaces the former Publix location that previously occupied the space.

The opening follows a significant shift in grocery options for Fernandina Beach shoppers. Two of the island’s three grocery stores closed for renovations simultaneously last year, leaving residents with fewer choices for several months.
The Winn-Dixie in Fernandina Beach closed at the end of July 2025 to convert into an Aldi, which opened in April. Meanwhile, the Publix on the island closed at the end of April 2025. That left Harris Teeter as the only traditional grocery store available on the island during that stretch.
According to a report from the Jacksonville Daily Record, the new Publix will feature a Publix Pours bar offering beer and wine, smoothies, acai bowls and more. The store will also include an expanded deli menu with burrito bowls, pizza and other items.
