‘Someone knows what happened’: Crime Stoppers offers $5K award for arrest of juveniles involved in deadly dog abuse case

Chihuahua mix dies after animal cruelty incident in Middleburg (WJXT)

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – First Coast Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 award for anyone with information that leads to the arrest of the juveniles involved in the abusive incident that led to the death of a Chihuahua-mix dog.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on May 17 at the Main Street Boat Ramp in Middleburg. A group of four to five children was seen throwing a chihuahua-mix dog into the water, holding it underwater and physically abusing it.

A family that witnessed the abuse rescued the dog, but the animal died a few days after the incident. The children left the scene before authorities arrived. They are described only as being between 9 and 13 years old.

Crime Stoppers is seeking more information and encourages community members who may know something to speak up.

“Animal cruelty is not a harmless act -- it is a serious crime and often a warning sign of future violent behavior. The cruelty displayed in this case has shocked our community, and we are committed to helping the Clay County Sheriff’s Office identify those responsible. Someone knows what happened.
