ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Eight years after a 28-year-old man was shot and killed in St. Augustine, an arrest has finally been made.
The family of Lavert Durden has pleaded for answers in his murder after he was shot on November 16, 2018, near the intersection of Herbert and Christopher Street in West St. Augustine.

Brandon Calloway, who was always listed as a person of interest in the investigation, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Durden on Friday, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, Durden got into a heated argument with Calloway and another person before he was shot.
Calloway, who was also serving an eight-year sentence for unrelated charges, was transported to the St. Johns County Jail.
He is being held without bond.
