Beach floats and west winds don’t mix: Lifeguards issue warning after several people blown away from shore

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – St. Johns County Marine Rescue said lifeguards responded to multiple people on floats getting pushed offshore on Tuesday.
This is after strong westerly winds persisted throughout the day.

Lifeguards want to remind beachgoers to pay attention to how far they are getting away from shore. They do not recommend floating on top of inflatable toys or chairs during strong west winds.
They’re also urging everyone to swim near a lifeguard.
