The investigation

On June 9, 2026, a deputy responded to the Dollar General in reference to a delayed theft. The deputy met with a loss prevention specialist, who said one of his employees had been stealing from the store.

The deputy made contact with the suspect and read him his Miranda rights. According to the affidavit, the suspect said he understood his rights and agreed to speak with the deputy.

The suspect told the deputy he had been “gracing” customers over the past month. When asked what he meant, he said he had been applying price overrides on certain items and not ringing up merchandise when customers were short on money.

“He admitted to doing this over 17 times, bringing the total loss from Dollar General to $2,850.00,” the affidavit states. “He stated, he knew it was wrong but did it anyway.”

The charge

The suspect was charged with one count of grand theft of property valued between $750 and $5,000, a third-degree felony.
