The sheriff’s office said the victim and his girlfriend had previously lived in a unit at the Villa on the Hill apartment complex. The victim went to the vacant unit to retrieve a pillow when an argument began with two other occupants.

During the dispute, a woman struck the victim with a blunt object to the head, the sheriff’s office said. The victim and the two suspects then went into the parking lot, where a man fired one shot, striking the victim in the leg. Both suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Staff at the complex told investigators the unit where the incident occurred was vacant and no one should have been inside at the time, police said. Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

Crime Scene Detectives are processing the scene. Detectives with the Robbery and Violent Crime Unit are interviewing witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video and following up on leads.
