CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old man was arrested July 17 after a deputy said he was driving 111 mph in a 45 mph zone on County Road 215, according to a Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
He was stopped about 8:54 a.m. after a deputy conducting traffic enforcement recorded his speed with radar, the report says.
The deputy activated emergency lights, made a U-turn and conducted a traffic stop. He was then taken to Clay County Jail, the report said.
In body camera footage released by the sheriff’s office, the man said he didn’t know he was going 111 mph.
Deputy: Do you know what the speed limit is on this roadway?
Rider: No, sir.
Deputy: Speed limit is 45.
Rider: 45?
Deputy: Do you know how fast you were going?
Rider: No, sir I thought I was going 60.
Deputy: You were going 111.
He was issued a criminal citation for excessive speed.
