JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man seen making threats and using racist language in a now-viral video was taken into custody Thursday afternoon, News4JAX has learned.
The video, recorded Monday in the San Jose neighborhood, has been viewed more than 1 million times across social media platforms. It shows a woman — identified as Tynika Munn, who is Black — being verbally and physically harassed while sitting in her car after pulling into a driveway to pick up a friend.
Munn, known to many as Ty, told News4JAX she called 911 immediately after the incident — and waited.
“I sat on the 9-1-1 call. I asked, ‘Are you sending someone out ASAP?’ Because you want me to sit in front of somebody’s house that can potentially go in and get a gun and just start shooting?” Munn said.
JSO told News4JAX it became aware of the video earlier this week and launched an investigation. Officers showed up at Munn’s door Thursday morning — three days after the incident. News4JAX Reporter Ashley French was there.
Munn says the confrontation began when she pulled into the man’s driveway at the direction of the friend she was picking up. She says what happened next was unprovoked.
“The video doesn’t start where the aggression started,” Munn told News4JAX. “The man actually got into his car, revved it up, and forced me to back out of the driveway. Then he parks to the side — and approaches me.”
She says she questioned why he was driving toward her car.
“And then I’m like, why are you trying to hit my car? That’s all I said,” Munn said. “He didn’t move the car anywhere but to the side — so it shows he was intentionally trying to antagonize me.”
The video gained widespread attention after popular content creator Michael McWhorter — who has more than 2 million followers — shared it online. Commenters expressed outrage and called for the man’s arrest.
When JSO officers met with Munn Thursday morning, she says they revealed the man in the video had a prior history with law enforcement.
“They said they have had contact with him before because he’s already got a history of bad behavior.”
Munn says the encounter shook her deeply.
“When it first happened, yes, I was in tears,” she said. “To be treated despicably like that man treated me on Monday — that kind of touched me with everything else that I was going through.”
News4JAX is choosing not to publish the man’s name and has blurred his face in the video because he had not yet been formally charged at the time this story was first reported.
JSO confirmed the man has been taken into custody, but it is unclear what charges he could face.
News4JAX asked JSO whether an officer was sent to respond to Munn’s initial 911 call on Monday and requested more details about the man’s prior history with the department. JSO did not answer those questions.
News4JAX also attempted to reach the man’s family for comment. They have not responded.
