FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office made 431 traffic stops and issued 115 citations during Operation Southern Slow Down, a weeklong, multi-state traffic enforcement and education campaign, the agency said Thursday.
The ninth annual campaign ran July 13-18 and involved law enforcement and transportation agencies across Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

During the operation, deputies gave 347 warnings and made nine traffic-related arrests, including two for driving under the influence. Deputies also investigated 35 crashes. There was one traffic fatality in Flagler County during the enforcement period.
“By working together with law enforcement agencies across the region, we sent the message loud and clear that speeding, aggressive driving and drunk driving have no place on the road,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Our deputies were busy keeping our roads safe and pulling over motorists when they observed dangerous driving behaviors. I hope every driver who got pulled over during this operation thinks twice about what they did and changes their driving behavior in the future.”
Staly urged drivers to follow speed limits, wear seat belts, use turn signals and never drive impaired. The sheriff’s office said its Traffic Enforcement Unit conducts year-round campaigns and participates in nationwide efforts such as Operation CARE and the Click It or Ticket campaign.
