FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – A 4-year-old wandering alone near the riverfront at Amelia Waterfront Park was reunited with his family after the Fernandina Beach Police Department found him.
On July 17, an officer was on his regular foot patrol at Amelia Waterfront Park at 2 a.m. when he found the boy. The body camera footage shows the officer talking to the boy and asking him questions, but he is unresponsive.
Some time later, the officers found the child’s father, who didn’t know his son had wandered out of their hotel room. Police said there were no signs of neglect or suspicious circumstances.
The department is reminding parents and guardians that young children can wander away in just a matter of moments, especially in unfamiliar places while traveling.
It is important to make sure doors are latched, alarms are set, and secure before sleeping.
