NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A domestic dispute at a Callahan home Monday afternoon left one person critically injured and a 17-year-old facing an attempted murder charge, according to deputies.

Just after 1 p.m. Monday, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that someone had been shot multiple times at a home on Gwen Avenue. When deputies arrived, they say they found the victim in the driver’s seat of a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
According to investigators, the victim and another adult had been arguing when the 17-year-old suspect was present. Witness and suspect statements indicate the victim reached for a firearm during the dispute before placing it back in a holster on a couch. As the victim walked away, the suspect allegedly retrieved the firearm and fired four rounds.
Following the shooting, deputies say the victim made it to the front of the property in an attempt to get help. Deputies say the suspect returned inside the home and called 911.
The teen was arrested and charged with attempted murder and booked into the Nassau County Jail before being transferred to the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.
“Domestic violence incidents are among the most difficult our deputies and detectives encounter,” said Sheriff Bill Leeper. “This is a tragic case that has left a family forever changed. We encourage anyone experiencing domestic violence or fearing for their safety to seek help before a situation turns tragic.”
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active and ongoing.
