ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A domestic violence investigation into a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office sergeant has expanded, resulting in drug-related charges against two SJSO employees.

While investigating a domestic violence case involving Corrections Division Sgt. Michael Clark, 54, and civilian employee Paige Madancy, detectives say they reviewed multiple electronic devices voluntarily provided by both. The review uncovered text conversations referencing drug use and the theft of medication.
Based on that evidence, both Clark and Madancy are charged with Theft of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Clark faces an additional charge of Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
Madancy has since separated from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains active.
Background: Clark’s arrest
The new charges stem from an investigation that began July 23, 2026, when the SJSO Special Victims Unit opened a criminal domestic violence case involving Clark and Madancy.
The following day, a temporary injunction for protection against dating violence — filed by a woman against Clark — was granted. Clark was placed on emergency suspension while the investigation continued.
Clark’s suspension lasted less than 24 hours. On July 25, 2026, around 12:30 p.m., he allegedly sent the woman a text message that included a photo of his injured arm — a direct violation of the injunction. Clark told investigators he sent the photo by accident.
The SJSO Special Victims Unit arrested Clark, who was booked into the SJSO Detention Center before being transferred to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. He has since bonded out with GPS monitoring and was terminated from the sheriff’s office following the arrest.
Clark had worked for SJSO since 2006 and most recently led the agency’s reentry and outreach program, helping people incarcerated in the detention center transition back into society.
