Nephew accused of shooting 61-year-old uncle at Northwest Jacksonville laundromat arrested

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The nephew of a 61-year-old man found shot to death inside a laundromat in Northwest Jacksonville was arrested in connection with the murder.

On Feb. 23, District 6 Patrol officers responded to a laundromat off Soutel Drive after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 61-year-old Roderick Crawford with multiple gunshot wounds.

JSO said surveillance video showed Crawford loading clothing into a dryer when a young man wearing a mask shot him in the back of the head.

The alleged shooter was identified as Crawford’s nephew, La’Darius Purdy.

On Wednesday, Purdy was arrested on an active warrant for domestic battery, stemming from an incident in January.

While he was in jail on Thursday, detectives interviewed Purdy about his uncle’s murder. Following the interview, Purdy was arrested on murder and tampering with evidence charges.
