FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Fernandina Beach Police Department is asking for the public’s help gathering information about a suspicious house fire from Sept. 19.
The Fernandina Beach Fire Department and the Fernandina Beach Police Department responded to a residential fire on Beugnet Road, just off Sadler Road.
Investigators are treating the fire as suspicious.
According to a GoFundMe, the home belonged to Kloei Leisure and her two kids: Izzy, 3, and Zahlei, 5 months.
“It’s such a tragic, tragic incident that has happened to such an amazing family,” family friend Allyson Swart said. “It breaks my heart.”
The fundraiser says that they lost everything in the fire and they need clothes, diapers, formula, bedding and more.
Izzy wears a shirt size 3T and shoe size 8. Zahlei wears size 6-9 months old clothes.
Swart said neighbors helped move cars out of the way while firefighters worked.
“A lot of people here in Fernandina helped move cars and get cars out of the way,” she said.
Swart said the family is overwhelmed and heartbroken but that the community is helping them rebuild.
“My focus was the family. My focus was on making sure they’re okay,” she said. “I know they’re overwhelmed, they’re heartbroken. But as a community, we rebuild.”
