Attorney calls for jaywalking ticket to be dropped

Devonte Shipman recorded his heated debate with officer over crosswalk citation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The lawyer for Devonte Shipman has filed a motion to have his jaywalking ticket dismissed, saying the intersection where he got the ticket is confusing to pedestrians.

Shipman was given two citations in June during a confrontation with Jacksonville sheriff's Officer J.S. Bolen that Shipman recorded on his cellphone.

Shipman said he believes he was racially profiled. One of the tickets, which was for not having a valid driver's license, was voided.

Shipman’s lawyer said the traffic signal and the pedestrian control signal at the intersection are not synchronized.

If Shipman’s citation is upheld, it would be a $65 fine.

The next hearing is Oct. 19.

Bolen’s actions that day are being investigated by JSO Internal Affairs.
