Flagler County plans Veterans Day ceremony

BUNNELL, Fla. – Florida Army National Guard Brigadier Gen. Mike Canzoneri will be featured at Flagler County’s Veteran’s Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10.

The event will be held at the flagpole of the Government Services Building, 1769 E. Moody Boulevard, Bunnell.

Besides featuring Canzoneri's address, the Col. Gary E. DeKay Veteran of the Year award recipient will be announced.                         

The event, sponsored by the Flagler County Commission and the Flagler County Veterans Advisory Council, will also include American Legion Post 115, Amvets Post 113, DAV Chapter 86, Italian American War Veterans Post 7, Marine Corps League 876, Military Officers Association of America, Military Order of the Purple Heart 808, Flagler County Veterans Service Office, VFW Post 8696, and the Knights of Columbus 2264 Color Corps, as well as local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. 

Canzoneri, assistant adjutant general, commands nearly 10,000 soldiers and manages all Florida Army National Guard programs. He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he served as the Executive Officer for the 3-124th Infantry Battalion, and led Operation Inspired Gambit in Pakistan as the commander of the 1-153rd Cavalry Squadron. 

Canzoneri is a recipient of the U.S. Army’s Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award, which recognizes company grade officers who demonstrate the ideals for which MacArthur stood – duty, honor, and country. 

The general was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Hourglass Device and Mobilization, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with bronze service start, Humanitarian Service Medial, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon with numeral 3 device, Army Service Ribbon and The Order of St. Maurice.
