Crash causes gas leak, shuts down part of Philips Highway

Lanes reopened just after 8 a.m. Wednesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A vehicle flipped in a crash early Wednesday on Philips Highway and hit a gas line, shutting down a section of the thoroughfare in both directions.

Jacksonville firefighters responded just before 6 a.m. and crews said no injuries were reported in the crash. They believe the driver was the only one in the vehicle.

It’s unclear why the vehicle crashed.

A quarter-mile stretch of Philips from Sunbeam Road to just south of Shad Road was temporarily shut down but all lanes reopened just after 8 a.m.

Crews towed the vehicle off and repairs were being made to the gas line in front of the Gate Talent Development Center on Philips Highway.

A worker with TECO Peoples Gas said the entire line will have to be replaced and there is no estimate on how long the repairs will take.
