Police investigate body found on Moncrief Road near Ribault River

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Homicide detectives are investigating the death Sunday afternoon of a man whose body was found on Moncrief Road near Ken Knight Drive, just south of the Ribault River.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said it received calls just after 3 p.m. that a man was shot near the the Washington Heights Apartments. Arriving officers found a man dead in the street. Marked Jacksonville Sheriff's Office units closed Moncrief in both directions during the investigation.

A detective would not confirm the age or any other information about the victim, saying the Medical Examiner's Office would determine the identity and cause of death.

Residents in the area didn't know the victim, but did say the shooting may have happened during an attempted robbery.
