JSO: Teenager killed in shooting at Hilltop Village Apartments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy was killed in a shooting Monday afternoon at the Hilltop Village Apartments, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

"It sounded like it was Iraq out here. Multiple guns," one neighbor told News4Jax. "It was real scary. I was in my apartment and heard it all the way from my apartment."

Homicide Sgt. M. Musser said a 911 call about the shooting came in just before 3 p.m. Responding officers found the body of the teen lying in a parking lot of the apartment complex.

According to Musser, the teen was shot at least once and died at the scene. No one was arrested and there was no information about the suspected shooter.

Family members identified the teenager as Andrian Gainer Jr. They said he was employed at a Jacksonville McDonald's.

Tameka Gaines Holley is the PTSA president for Ribault High School and is running for Jacksonville City Council. She said she was with a group of students from Ribault who knew Gainer.

"They were getting out of school when this happened," Holley said. "I know he didn't know that was going to happen to him today. We didn't know that was going to happen."

Northside Coalition President Ben Frazier was at the crime scene. He said he was outraged over the death of another young person.

"We need to be concerned about where these weapons are coming from," Frazier said. "I am not content with the answer I have received thus far. The answer is that these weapons are being stolen from people who leave their cars open. Yes we understand that’s a part of the problem, however, we think there are other means that people are acquiring these weapons.”

Anyone with information that can help police was asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-866-845-TIPS.
