What would you do if your child was sick and didn’t have access to the medical care that could save their life? In Jacksonville, we don’t have to worry about not having access to specialized medical care for our children, but in developing countries, this is a reality for many families. But we have a solution. Out of the deep pain of losing our child, Will, in 2018, we wanted to honor his life by helping other children receive the same care he did. We started The Will King Foundation, a local non-profit with the mission to support children from developing countries who are receiving life-saving heart treatment at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. We work with a missionary hospital called The Hospital of Hope in Mango, Togo to identify children born with a congenital heart defect living in West Africa. In partnership with Patrons of the Heart and Wolfson Children’s Hospital, we bring those children to our city where they receive exceptional care and life-saving treatment. We believe that where you live shouldn’t determine whether you live and want to give every child a chance at life.
Each year we host a family-friendly event called Gather +Give where we gather together our Jacksonville community and give back to the international children coming to our city for heart care. We invite you to join us for this year’s event on Saturday, November 5 from 1-5pm at The Keeler Property (17255 Normandy Blvd.). We will have live music, food trucks and a ton of kids’ activities! Tickets are only $10 for adults and kids are free!
