Boy Scouts renovating historic Red Hut

Atlantic Beach – Boy Scout Troop 37 in Atlantic Beach is leading a major effort to restore the historic Red Hut, a wooden building that has served as a home for local scouting activities for generations. Originally built by Troop 37 in the late 1930s and known for its distinctive red exterior and classic interior features—like a cathedral ceiling made from old-growth sycamore and a floor salvaged from a 19th-century Jacksonville post office—the Red Hut is now in desperate need of repairs as its windows and wood siding have deteriorated with age. The scouts, alongside local leaders and community supporters, have launched a fundraising campaign to replace the aging materials and restore the building to its former glory for current and future generations of scouts.
