Orange Park squeaks past Oakleaf

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – It was another tight ball game for our second Game of the Week in Clay County, as the Oakleaf Knights hosted the Orange Park Raiders.

Both teams fumbled on their opening drives. Then the Raiders scored first on a 5-yard run by Eddie Fuller to make it 6-0.

On the ensuing kick off, Nick Roberts slipped, but then recovered and took it all the way to tie the game 6-6.

In the second quarter, Oakleaf quarterback Jordon Johnson lobbed it up for J.C. Flowers who came down with it for a 40-yard touchdown, giving the Knights a 14-6 lead at the half.

By the fourth quarter, Orange Park had closed the gap to within 5 points, when Jacob Mezera hit Raekwon Fuller for a 17-yard touchdown.

The Raiders went for a 2-point conversion but missed, so they still led by 1.

The Knights just needed a field goal to win the game, but the Raiders defense stepped up and shut them down to hold on to a 15-14 victory.

"We try and tell our kids you never quit, you never quit until the end. Oakleaf did the same thing," Orange Park Coach Craig Nosse said. "Hell of a game. Clay County's got some good football and we're happy to get out of here with a win. It was an outstanding game from both sides."
