Jaguars make 18 roster moves with key cuts
Center Mike Brewster among players waived
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's cut week across the NFL as teams have until Saturday at 4 p.m. to reduce their rosters from 75 to 53 players. The Jaguars made 18 roster moves on Friday and their roster currently sits at 57.
Among the cuts was veteran center Mike Brewster. He entered camp as the starter and the potential successor to Brad Meester but struggled throughout the preseason. The team also parted ways with guard Drew Nowak, quarterback Ricky Stanzi and defensive end Gerald Rivers.
Tandon Doss and Rashaad Reynolds were placed on injured reserve after suffering injuries in Thursday night's loss to the Falcons in the preseason finale.
"Competition is our central theme and all of these players competed on a daily basis," Jaguars general manager David Caldwell told Jaguars.com. "This is always a tough day because you are letting go of men that played a vital role in what we are building here. We will continue to compete to build the best roster possible as head into the regular season."
NFL teams are allowed ten players on their practice squads. They can begin signing those players starting on Sunday at noon.
The rest of the players released from the team include WR Chad Bumphis, FB Eric Kettani, TE Brandon Barden (waived/injured), OT Cody Booth, DL DeAndre Coleman, DT Ricky Havili-Heimuli, S Craig Loston, QB Stephen Morris, K/P Kasey Redfern, G Tyler Shatley, TE D.J. Tialavea and LB Marcus Whitfield.
