The excellent week for the Ponte Vedra athletic program continued.

The Sharks girls won the Class 3A state swimming and diving championship on Saturday night in Stuart, racking up 245 points to beat Tallahassee Chiles (203). Ponte Vedra’s previous best finish came with a sixth-place effort in 2012.

It comes on a week when the Ponte Vedra girls cross country team won the 3A state championship and the nationally ranked volleyball team stormed into its third consecutive state championship match.

The Sharks got individual state championships in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. Ponte Vedra added a state runner-up finish in the 400 free relay. Ann Wohlgemuth was state runner-up in the 100 back in 53.85 and took fourth in the 100 fly (56.41).

Fleming Island’s Maryn McDade had an excellent state meet, winning the 50 free (23.58) and tying for second in the 100 free (51.47).
