JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – National signing day is in the rearview but it’s never too soon to look ahead to the upcoming crop of high school football stars who will headline the Class of 2023.

There’s no five-star player in next year’s class like there was in the current one. Riverside defensive back and All-News4JAX defensive player of the year Jaheim Singletary was rated as the country’s No. 27 overall player in the 247 Sports Composite rankings.

While the Class of 2023 doesn’t have a five-star like Singletary, it more than makes up for it with depth. Fleming Island running back Sam Singleton is the top recruit using the 247 Composite rankings, coming in at No. 103 in the country.

The Composite rankings use three services — ESPN, Rivals, 247 Sports — to come up with an overall rating. Trinity Christian running back Treyaun Webb follows Singleton as No. 106 in the country.

In the Class of 2022, Singletary was the major headliner. But the next highest-rated area recruit in the News4JAX Florida coverage region was Trinity Christian defensive back Cam Miller. He was ranked as the No. 294 overall recruit in the country by the Composite. In the Class of 2023, six area players are ranked in the top 283 in the country.

That includes major recruits at non-traditional football schools.

Jackson linebacker Grayson Howard and Westside defensive lineman Jordan Hall both rank inside the top 283 in the country.
