The Browns will try to earn a playoff spot without four wide receivers, including star Landry, their starting middle linebacker and his replacement due to COVID-19 protocols. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After sitting out last season, five-time Pro Bowl receiver Jarvis Landry is attempting to return to the NFL and will participate with the Jaguars at rookie minicamp next month.

According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Landry will look to land a roster spot when he takes part in the camp from May 10-13. Landry was a second-round pick of the Dolphins in 2014 and has three 1,000-yard seasons and 38 career receiving touchdowns.

Landry has 7,870 receiving yards in stops with the Dolphins, Browns and Saints. He made the Pro Bowl from 2015-2019. He went on injured reserve with the Saints in December 2022, battling an ankle injury that he elected to sit out the 2023 season with.

It’s a low-risk, high-reward move for the Jaguars. Landry is 31 and has been out of football for more than a year, so there’s no guarantee on his skills or condition. Receiver Calvin Ridley was out of football for more than a year when the Jaguars traded for him at the 2022 deadline. Ridley had 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns in his lone season with the Jaguars.

Landry looked unbothered physically in a video posted on social media site, X, running, cutting and catching passes. How will that translate actual football? Jacksonville’s receiving corps now includes rookie first-rounder Brian Thomas Jr., Gabe Davis, Zay Jones and Christian Kirk. Jones is in the final year of his contract and the team could save more than $4 million if they release him.
