Jaguars training camp notebook: Travis Hunter gets plenty of reps on defense with the first team

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Was it the injury or was it just time? I don’t know, but the day has finally arrived — Travis Hunter running with the starting defense.

With Tyson Campbell sidelined for the second day in a row, Hunter spent the entire practice with the defense working in the secondary with Jourdan Lewis, Jarrian Jones, Eric Murray and Andrew Wingard.

This is the first time that Hunter has found himself working with this unit. He was the “third” guy so he was only in when there were three corners on the field, but played on the boundary most of the day. Solid day. Hunter had his hands on a pair of footballs. One came during team drills where he dove out of bounds for an interception but couldn’t get his feet down. He also caught a pass during one-on-ones, but it was waved off because of a pass interference call.

If there was one thing that I’d say they will take from this practice with Hunter running with the 1’s is that he is a little handsy. The refs flagged him for either pass interference or holding twice during 1-on-1s, and once during team drills. Hunter spent some time pleading his case to the ref during practice.
