Varsity 4 News4JAX Super 10 rankings

Rank, (previous), school, record last year, classification

1. (2) St. Augustine (6-0, Class 4A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: 1/1.

Last week: Off. This week: at Clay (1-5).

Why they’re here: The Yellow Jackets can clinch the District 3-4A title with a win here and a Columbia victory over Ridgeview. There’s no reason to think both won’t happen.

2. (2) Raines (5-0, Class 3A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: 2/2.

Last week: Beat Ribault, 53-0. This week: vs. Madison County (2-4), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: Vikings crushed Ribault to continue their assault on opposing teams. Raines has outscored opponents by a combined 278-17 this season, an unbelievable mark even for a team as good as Raines.

3. (3) Bolles (5-1, Class 2A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: 3/3.

Last week: Off. This week: vs. Jackson (3-3).

Why they’re here: Bulldogs can wrap up a district championship with a win over Jackson and a Baldwin win over Wolfson, two things that will very likely happen. This will be Bolles’ first game since RB Xander Edwards rushed for 533 yards and eight TDs against Baldwin two weeks ago.

4. (4) Mandarin (6-1, Class 6A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: 4/4.

Last week: Beat Rockledge, 38-10. This week: vs. Fletcher (5-2), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: A very difficult closing stretch begins this week. The Mustangs wrap their season with district games against Fletcher and Oakleaf, followed by a Week 11 clash at No. 1 St. Augustine.

5. (5) Oakleaf (5-1, Class 6A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: 5/6.

Last week: Off. This week: vs. First Coast (4-2).

Why they’re here: Knights need to take care of the Buccaneers before they can turn their focus to tough games against White and Mandarin. The latter game against the Mustangs on Oct. 24 will decide the District 2-6A title.

6. (6) Nease (4-2, Class 6A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: T7/7.

Last weCoaches poll ranking/previous: ek: Off. This week: at Bartram Trail (2-4).

Why they’re here: Panthers get a major district clash against rival Bartram Trail this week. They need to end a two-game losing streak that has put a damper on a 4-0 start.

7. (7) Bradford (6-1, Class 2A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: 6/5.

Last week: Beat Palatka, 36-0. Next: vs. Newberry (3-3), 7:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Tornadoes lost their only two games of the season last year to Newberry. Barring something catastrophic, that won’t happen this year.

8. (4) Columbia (6-1, Class 4A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: T7/8.

Last week: Beat Manatee, 35-0. Next: at Ridgeview (2-4).

Why they’re here: The Tigers bounced back from a 20-point loss to St. Augustine in Week 6 with a blowout of Manatee. They’ve got a pair of district games sandwiched around a bye week before closing things out with Bolles in Week 11.

9. (9) Beachside (5-1, Class 5A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: 9/9.

Last week: Beat Tocoi Creek, 45-14. Next: vs. Fleming Island (3-3).

Why they’re here: The Barracudas can take another very big step towards winning a district championship with a victory over the Golden Eagles this week. Beachside flashed its running game ability in Week 7 on the legs of Vincent Galella.

10. (10) White (4-1, Class 4A)

Coaches poll ranking/previous: 10/10.

Last week: Beat Atlantic Coast, 48-21. Next: vs. Sandalwood (0-7), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Commanders can win back-to-back district championships in two weeks against Riverside. They’ll try and keep the Saints winless this Friday night.
