Varsity 4 Super 6 volleyball: Camden Rahn hits kill milestone for Middleburg; Beachside set at No. 1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 high school volleyball rankings will be published each Wednesday during the regular season. Records are through Sept. 30 games.

Rank, (previous), team, record, classification

1. (1) Beachside (17-1, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Bishop Kenny, Bolles, Doral Academy, Episcopal, Gulliver Prep, Lake Highland Prep, Middleburg, New Smyrna Beach, Northside Christian, Ponte Vedra, Providence, South Walton, Tocoi Creek.

Notable: The Barracudas are thundering on. They had three wins since our last Super 6, with 3-0s over Bartram Trail and Tocoi Creek, and a 3-1 over a solid Middleburg team. Tough close to the week with a trip to Bishop Kenny and then a ride down to Bishop Moore’s Swing for the Cure tournament. Adriana Jeanpierre (233 kills) and Mollie VanDeusen (248 assists, 129 kills) are hitting it extremely well. Senior setter Erica Duffy has 117 kills and 233 assists.

2. (4) Ponte Vedra (11-10, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Auburn (Ala.), Bishop Kenny, Boca Raton Christian, Bolles, Daphne (Ala.), Middleburg, Providence, Ridgeview, Trinity Christian.

Notable: The Sharks had one game since our last Super 6, a sweep of previous No. 2 Bishop Kenny. Yes, the loss total is high but only two of those have come to local teams (Beachside, Providence). They’re back in action Wednesday night against a quality Harvest Community team.

3. (2) Bishop Kenny (14-8, Class 4A)

Quality wins: Creekside, Doral Academy, Episcopal, Fleming Island, Mountain Brook (Ala.), Northside Christian, Providence, Ridgeview, Riviera Prep, Santa Fe, Strawberry Crest, True North.

Notable: The Crusaders went 1-1 since our last Super 6, a sweep of Episcopal and a 3-0 loss to Ponte Vedra. They wrap up the week by hosting No. 1 Beachside on Thursday. Mattie Wilkey (147 kills), Chelsea Akakatang (136 kills) and Lilian Heldenbrand (125 kills) lead the attack.

4. (3) Fleming Island (11-4, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Bolles, Fletcher, Mandarin, Ponte Vedra, Providence, Ridgeview.

Notable: The Golden Eagles had a 1-1 week since our last Super 6. They lost to Middleburg (3-0) and then edged Providence (3-2). Fleming hosts Atlantic Coast on Wednesday and travels to face Santa Fe on Thursday. Lillie Eason (196 kills, 105 digs), Lauren Brosky (193 kills, 144 digs), Hazel Williams (310 assists, 42 aces) and Alana Santiago (205 assists) lead the Golden Eagles.

5. (NR) Middleburg (11-10, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Bishop Kenny, Fleming Island, Leon, Osceola, Palm Harbor University, Tampa Prep.

Notable: The Broncos move in to the Super 10 after wins over both Bishop Kenny and Fleming Island in the last week and a half. They also took a set from top-ranked Beachside in a 3-1 loss on Tuesday night. They wrap up the regular season with three games against Super 6 teams (Bishop Kenny, Ponte Vedra, Trinity Christian). Star Camden Rahn surpassed 800 career kills during the win over Fleming Island.

T6. (5) Providence (11-5, Class 2A)

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Christ’s Church, Holy Trinity Episcopal, Olympia, Santa Fe, Tocoi Creek, Trinity Christian.

Notable: A 1-1 mark since our last Super 6, a sweep of University Christian and a 3-2 loss to Fleming Island. They visit Bartram Trail on Oct. 7 in their next game. Isabela Lopez (193 kills) leads Providence at the net. Emma Clifton (323 assists) and Addison Shaw (176 digs) lead those categories.

T6. (6) Trinity Christian (15-7, Class 2A)

Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Christ’s Church, Fleming Island, Gainesville, Middleburg, Ridgeview, St. Augustine, Timber Creek.

Notable: Trinity swept Bolles in their lone game since our last Super 6. They’ve got Tocoi Creek on Thursday to round out the week. Nova Hewlett has 261 kills and 156 digs to lead the offense and defense. Emma Hernesman has 464 assists and 148 digs.
