Varsity 4 Super 10: Oakleaf-White clash in ranked battle in Week 9

1. (1) St. Augustine (7-0, Class 4A)

Last week: beat Clay, 56-7. This week: vs. Bartram Trail (2-5).

Why they’re here: The Yellow Jackets have wrapped up a district title. They have a struggling Bears team this week. The biggest remaining test between St. Augustine and a perfect regular season is Oct. 30 against Mandarin.

2. (2) Raines (6-0, Class 3A)

Last week: beat Madison County, 27-14. This week: vs. Creekside (4-4), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: Vikings got a bit of a test against a tough Madison County squad last week. Their biggest game remaining is for the district title on Oct. 24 against unbeaten Yulee.

3. (3) Bolles (6-1, Class 2A)

Last week: beat Jackson, 48-0. This week: vs. Riverside (2-6), Thursday.

Why they’re here: The Bulldogs have wrapped up a district title and are in excellent shape for the postseason. Their most difficult game left is Oct. 31 at Columbia.

4. (4) Mandarin (7-1, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Fletcher, 22-13. This week: Off.

Why they’re here: The Mustangs get a well-timed break after topping Fletcher in a defensive battle in the rain. They face a pair of Super 10 teams to end the regular season in Oakleaf (Oct. 24) and St. Augustine (Oct. 30).

5. (5) Oakleaf (6-1, Class 6A)

Last week: beat First Coast, 24-0. This week: at (10) White (6-1), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Knights have two difficult games across the next two weeks, starting with Friday’s showdown at No. 10 White. Then, it’s the district title game at Mandarin on Oct. 24.

6. (6) Nease (5-2, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Bartram Trail, 10-0. Next: at Atlantic Coast (3-4), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Panthers ended a two-game losing streak with a defensive slugfest win over Bartram Trail. The only thing standing between Nease and an eight-win season is a Week 11 game against Beachside.

7. (7) Bradford (7-1, Class 2A)

Last week: beat Newberry, 28-7. This week: vs. Tallahassee Leon (2-4).

Why they’re here: The Tornadoes got a bit of redemption against Newberry last week for a pair of losses to the Panthers last year. They will wrap up a district title with a win over Santa Fe on Oct. 24.

8. (8) Columbia (7-1, Class 4A)

Last week: beat Ridgeview, 44-0. This week: Off.

Why they’re here: The Tigers make it to their bye week in very good shape. They’re not going to win a district title but they’re going to be comfortably in the postseason. They round out their regular season against Clay (Oct. 24) and Bolles (Oct. 31).

9. (9) Beachside (5-1, Class 5A)

Last week: game vs. Fleming Island postponed to Nov. 4. This week: at Middleburg (6-1).

Why they’re here: Barracudas are in the mix for a No. 1 seed in their region should they keep on winning. They get a little bit of a challenge this week in the Broncos, although Beachside should win comfortably.

10. (10) White (5-1, Class 4A)

Last week: beat Sandalwood, 49-6. This week: vs. (5) Oakleaf (6-1), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Commanders have lost a shootout to the best team on their schedule to date (52-49 to Merritt Island). Can they hang with the No. 5-ranked Knights in their most difficult game of the season?
