Varsity 4 News4JAX Super 10 rankings

Rank, (previous), school, record last year, classification

1. (1) Raines (9-0, Class 3A)

Last week: beat Atlantic Coast, 57-0. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: The Vikings should coast into the state semifinals and have a chance to play for a state title.

2. (4) Mandarin (9-1, Class 6A)

Last week: beat (2) St. Augustine, 27-21. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: Big move of the week for the Mustangs. They also jumped to No. 2 in the coaches rankings.

3. (2) St. Augustine (9-1, Class 4A)

Last week: lost to (4) Mandarin, 27-21. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: Tough loss for the Yellow Jackets. It may wind up keeping them locked into the No. 2 seed in Region 1-6A.

4. (3) Bolles (9-1, Class 2A)

Last week: beat (7) Columbia, 31-0. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: I’ll probably regret dropping the Bulldogs a spot, but that’s just how it shook out this week after Mandarin’s win. Bolles is still the area’s top pick for a state title.

5. (5) Nease (8-2, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Beachside, 47-17. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: The Panthers look very good on the defensive side of the ball heading into the playoffs.

6. (6) Bradford (9-1, Class 2A)

Last week: Off. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: The Tornadoes should be able to tear through their first two regional playoff games. They’re a very good pick for a regional final at the minimum.

7. (8) Oakleaf (8-2, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Tocoi Creek, 31-8. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: The Knights bounced back from a disappointing effort against Mandarin to thump the Toros.

8. (9) Ponte Vedra (8-2, Class 5A)

Last week: beat Creekside, 17-7. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: Sharks will likely be a No. 2 seed for when the postseason begins. They’re a good pick to reach the regional finals.

9. (10) White (8-2, Class 4A)

Last week: beat Baldwin, 48-42, OT. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: The Commanders finished with a state record 537 points scored in the regular season. Even with a porous defense, they can put up numbers and should be a threat in Region 1-4A.

10. (7) Columbia (8-2, Class 4A)

Last week: lost to (3) Bolles, 31-0. Next: Playoffs.

Why they’re here: The Tigers have struggled offensively against good teams, so they’ll need to crank it up for the postseason.

Keep an eye on

Bishop Kenny (8-2, Class 3A); Fleming Island (6-3, Class 6A); Middleburg (8-2, Class 5A); Yulee (8-2, Class 4A).
