The Bolles swimming machine rolls on, with its national record stretching 38th straight team championship headlined by a relay team setting a US record in Saturday’s Class 1A state meet.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Krish Jain, Lucas Young, George Dovellos and Liam Carrington opened the meet with a time of 1 minute, 26.67 seconds to break the national mark. The previous record of 1:26.75 was set earlier this year by Hindsdale (Illinois). That record went on to highlight Bolles’ romp in the boys division, with the Bulldogs racking up 619 points, not even within view of runners-up Montverde and Saint Andrew’s (214).

That time in the 200 medley also vanquished a Bolles team record of 1:28.02, set in 2012 by future swimming stars Ryan Murphy, Joseph Schooling, Josh Booth and Santo Condorelli.

The Bolles girls team stretched their state championship streak out to 35 years, piling up 480 points to romp over Montverde (197).

Individually, Bolles swept the relays and won six events. Carrington’s 42.66 to win the 100 free broke former Bolles star Ryan Murphy’s team mark of 42.95 set in 2012.

For the girls, Bolles had more than a dozen swimmers place inside the top five individually to showcase its depth. Heidi Stoute, Ainsley Stephan, Giana Vasto and Riley Miller all brought home individual wins for Bolles.

Union County swimmer Eva Whitehead defended her state title in the 200 IM and Episcopal’s Blakely Hammel was a double champ, winning the 100 free and 200 free.

In Class 2A, the Bishop Kenny boys won its fourth team state championship in the last five years. The Crusaders had 244.5 points, well in front of Belen Jesuit (217). Carter Wright was the star for Kenny, winning the 100 back and 50 free.
