It was a rough night for local teams in the Georgia High School Association state playoffs.
All four area teams — Brunswick, Charlton County, Pierce County and Ware County — were hammered in the second round on Friday night.

The most visible loss was suffered by Brunswick in the Class 5A playoffs. The Pirates’ game against visiting Gainesville was stopped with 1 minute, 57 seconds remaining in the third quarter after a massive brawl broke out between the teams. Footage on social media and the NFHS broadcast showed players from both teams in a huge fight. The game was called with Gainesville up 42-0. Brunswick’s season ends at 9-3.

In Class 4A, Ware County had no answer for Creekside in a 49-0 loss. The Gators finished their season at 9-3.
Pierce County’s season ended at 9-3 in Class 2A with a 48-28 loss to Carver. And Charlton County couldn’t keep up with unbeaten Screven County in a 35-14 loss. The Indians finished 6-6.
