Varsity 4 Super 6 girls soccer: Top teams stay put as Christmas break looms

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 girls soccer rankings will be published every Thursday during the regular season — except during Thanksgiving and Christmas week. Records are through Dec. 10 games.

Rank (previous), school, record, classification

1. (1) Ponte Vedra (6-0-1), Class 5A

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Bishop Kenny, Chiles, Lake Highland Prep, Niceville, St. Johns Country Day.

Notable: The Sharks have been off since our last Super 6, but they’re back in action on Thursday night at Creekside. Lily Morse leads the Sharks with eight goals.

2. (2) Bartram Trail (7-1-2), Class 6A

Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Beachside, Bishop Moore, Fletcher, Navarre, Spruce Creek.

Notable: The Bears went 2-0 since our last Super 6, beating Stanton (5-0) and an always tough Bishop Moore (1-0). They round out the week with two more tough games (Buchholz on Thursday and Lake Mary on Saturday). Junior F Layla Davis and Kendall Underwood have combined for 13 goals.

3. (3) Creekside (6-1-2), Class 7A

Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Fletcher, Gulf Breeze, Mandarin, Viera.

Notable: The Knights beat Mandarin and Oakleaf by 3-0 scores since our last Super 6. They’ve got a showdown against No. 1 Ponte Vedra on Thursday before a long Christmas break.

4. (4) Bishop Kenny (8-2), Class 4A

Quality wins: Bolles, Christ’s Church, P.K. Yonge, Stanton, St. Johns Country Day.

Notable: The Crusaders beat Christ’s Church and Menendez by 5-0 scores. They visit Episcopal on Friday before the Christmas break arrives. Freshman Shea Donovan and Stella Jones have 10 goals apiece for the Crusaders.

5. (5) St. Johns Country Day (7-2-1), Class 1A

Quality wins: Episcopal, Fleming Island, Oakleaf, Providence, P.K. Yonge, Wolfson.

Notable: The Spartans beat Wolfson (6-0) and Providence (2-0) since our last Super 6. With four games in the next eight days, they’re one of the busiest area teams before the Christmas break. Victoria Sarka (12 goals, 8 assists) is leading the Spartans.

6. (NR) Beachside (5-2-2, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Gulf Breeze, Mandarin, Matanzas, Nease.

Notable: The Barracudas have been off since a scoreless draw against Creekside on Dec. 3. They return to action Thursday against Fleming Island and round out the week on Saturday against Tocoi Creek.
