St. Johns Country Day girls soccer has been so successful โ theyโve won 14 state titles, including the last 11 in a row โ that head coach Mike Pickett treats everything before the playoffs as a warmup. He picks some of the best teams in the nation to make up one of the most difficult schedules in the state for a reason. He wants his team to be challenged. On Friday, the Spartans play for a spot in the regional finals, the next step toward another championship.

Ponte Vedra girls too much for McCarthy in soccer state final
Ponte Vedra went back and finished the job this time. The Sharks found their redemption on Friday afternoon, knocking off Archbishop McCarthy 2-0 in the Class 5A state championship game at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand. That made it a 2-for-2 day, and a sweep by area girls teams in state championship games this week. AdAs it had been throughout the latter of the season, the Ponte Vedra defense was wicked. Ponte Vedra followed with four consecutive shutouts, the final one of those against the countryโs 29th-ranked team by MaxPreps.
No soccer double for St. Johns Country Day as boys fall in final
A St. Johns Country Day double wasnโt meant to be this year. While the Spartans had success in the now-defunct fall soccer series, they hadnโt been this far in the FHSAAโs winter playoff format. All of St. Johnsโ soccer success lies on the girls side. Canterbury (21-3-1) used a pair of goals from Riley Johnson and Sam Schoensee to beat St. Johns. St. Johnsโ season ends at 16-3-1.

The St. Johns Country Day girls soccer team celebrates its 6-0 win over Canterbury on Wednesday in the Class 2A championship game. The St. Johns Country Day girls soccer team added one more state championship to its trophy case, obliterating Fort Myers Canterbury 6-0 in the Class 2A title game at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand on Wednesday afternoon. A total of 27 Spartans players scored at least one goal this season, creating depth and setting the table for 2022. AdThe championship game looked like any other Spartans conquest, a thorough domination that showcased just how far apart the program is from others. St. Johns scored on a Mia Sadler header less than 20 seconds into the game and Paige Crews added a second goal not even a minute later.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. โ It is a good time to be a St. Johns Country Day soccer fan. This week, both the boys and girls teams will be playing in DeLand in state championship games. The Spartans boys are in the state championship game for the first time. Under the current winter sports format, St. Johns Country Day has never won a boys soccer state championship. St. Johns has 12 state championships in program history and is quickly catching up to state leader St. Thomas Aquinasโ 15 titles.

It was a tough night for area soccer teams in the state playoffs. With the exception of both the boys and girls teams at St. Johns Country Day, and a pair of St. Johns County powers, Bartram Trail and Ponte Vedra, the other four area teams bowed out in the state semifinals. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The High School 9:12 Baseball Classic at Sans Souci Park wrapped up Saturday with the final three games of the preseason tournament televised on CW17 and broadcast on 1010XL radio for the third consecutive year. The tournament began early in the week, although Tuesdayโs games were wiped out due to rain and made up a day later. The team switch the best records played on Saturday: Wolfson/Clay, Fleming Island/Nease and St. Johns Country Day/Ponte Vedra. The Baseball Classic is one of three marquee competition events that High School 9:12 has put on annually. High School 9:12 is also segueing into lacrosse this spring with the first Rivalry on the River, a 16-team event featuring both boys and girls teams.
Bolles girls dominate cross country region, surge into state meet
Two area boys and two area girls won individual championships Friday at the New World Sports Complex, while the Bolles girls were sensational in Region 1-2A. For the second straight postseason meet, the Bolles girls swept the top seven positions. In addition to Bolles, Menendez took fourth in the region and advanced to state. They reached the state playoffs seven out of 10 times during the 2010s. Region 1-2AChristโs Church beat St. Johns Country Day for the second time in as many tries, sweeping the Spartans out of the state playoffs. Weeks after canceling season, St. Johns Country Day back in 8-man football
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ St. Johns Country Dayโs football team is making a comeback. Johns is pleased to announce that it has joined the Sunshine State Athletic Conference for the remainder of the 8-man varsity football season. Spartans athletic director Traci Livingston said the school was excited to be able to relaunch the football season in this year. St. Johns plays as an independent in the Florida High School Athletic Association. Area schools Christโs Church, Cedar Creek Christian, Eagleโs View and Providence play in the Sunshine State Athletic Conferenceโs varsity 11-man division.
Clay High volleyball, football games canceled due to potential COVID-19 exposure
CLAY COUNTY, FLa. โ Members of the Clay High School football and volleyball teams are under quarantine to potential exposure of COVID-19, the district announced on Wednesday. Clay varsity and junior varsity football players can return Oct. 1, according to the Florida Department of Health-Clay County. Varsity and junior varsity volleyball players can return Oct. 8. The football teamโs Friday game at Palatka canceled. In a statement, the Clay County School District said, "The Florida Department of Health - Clay County has recommended the quarantine of all individuals on the Clay High Varsity and JV Football Teams and the Clay High Varsity and JV Volleyball Teams due to the potential exposure to positive COVID-19 cases.
St. Johns Country Day cancels rest of football season

It soon went viral. Since that heartwarming picture, both Pickett and Tidd family have connected and their bond has continued to grow. She was the Gatorade state player of the year, as well as Floridas Miss Soccer as a senior.
