Varsity 4 Super 6 girls soccer: Big win for Bartram Trail as holiday break arrives

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 girls soccer rankings will be published every Thursday during the regular season — except during Thanksgiving and Christmas week. Records are through Dec. 17 games.

Rank (previous), school, record, classification

1. (1) Ponte Vedra (8-0-2), Class 5A

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Bishop Kenny, Chiles, Creekside, Lake Highland Prep, Niceville, St. Johns Country Day.

Notable: The Sharks went 2-0-1 since our last Super 6, beating Creekside (1-0) and Stanton (6-0), a playing Lake Mary to a 1-all draw. Fletcher on Thursday night is the last game on the schedule until early January for the Sharks. Lily Morse leads the Sharks with nine goals.

2. (2) Bartram Trail (9-1-3), Class 6A

Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Beachside, Bishop Moore, Buchholz, Fletcher, Navarre, Spruce Creek.

Notable: The Bears went 2-0-1 since our last Super 6, two quality wins over Buchholz (4-0) and Lake Mary (2-1), and a 2-all draw with Fleming Island. The win over Lake Mary is perhaps the best win by an area team this season. The Rams are the reigning Class 7A state champs and were unbeaten before facing the Bears. They face Tocoi Creek on Thursday night before the Christmas break sets in. Junior F Layla Davis has 12 goals to lead Bartram.

3. (3) Creekside (6-2-2), Class 7A

Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Fletcher, Gulf Breeze, Mandarin, Viera.

Notable: The Knights played just once since our last Super 6, losing to No. 1 Ponte Vedra 1-0. No shame in that loss. The Knights are off until early January when they return against Chiles. Their only other loss is to Lake Highland Prep.

4. (4) Bishop Kenny (9-2), Class 4A

Quality wins: Bolles, Christ’s Church, Episcopal, P.K. Yonge, Stanton, St. Johns Country Day.

Notable: The Crusaders beat Episcopal 4-0 since our last Super 6 and are off until early January. They’ve been very consistent this year, with their only losses coming to Creekside and Ponte Vedra. Freshman Shea Donovan and Stella Jones have combined for 21 goals for Kenny.

5. (5) St. Johns Country Day (9-2-2), Class 1A

Quality wins: Episcopal, Fleming Island, Oakleaf, Providence, P.K. Yonge, Wolfson.

Notable: The Spartans went 2-0-1 since our last Super 6, beating All Saints’ Academy (4-0) and Cornerstone Classical (8-0), and playing to a scoreless draw with powerhouse Lakeland Christian. One big match before Christmas break (Bishop Moore) comes on Friday night. Victoria Sarka (15 goals, 10 assists), Madisyn Bauman (9 assists, 8 goals) and Calli Berang (7 goals, 7 assists) lead St. Johns.

6. (6) Beachside (8-2-2, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Fleming Island, Gulf Breeze, Mandarin, Matanzas, Nease, Tocoi Creek.

Notable: The Barracudas are unbeaten in their last six games, and notched quality wins over Fleming Island (3-1) and Tocoi Creek (1-0) since our last Super 6. They head into the Christmas break with their only losses coming in one-goal games to Lake Highland Prep and Bartram Trail.
