1. (3) Impact Christian (14-2, Class 1A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Ga., Coral Glades, Creekside, Episcopal, Jackson, Marian (Texas), Potter’s House, Raines, St. Johns (Texas), Village (Texas).
Notable: A solid holiday break for the Lions, who went 3-1 since our last Super 6. They racked up wins over Texas teams Marin (49-38), Village (85-69) and St. John’s (71-55) before losing to reigning Texas state champ Second Baptist (64-61). Big showdown this week against Fleming Island on Thursday. Ronald Clark (14.8 ppg), Frandy Perez (12.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg), Jeremiah Jones (10.3 ppg) and Mechack Olungu (9.9 ppg, 9.8 rpg) lead one of head coach Ben Jones’ best teams at Impact. They move up over the Tigers with the strength of schedule in their favor.
2. (1) Jackson (15-1, Class 3A)
Quality wins: Bolles, Fleming Island, Florida High, Godby, Leon, Northside Christian, Ponte Vedra, Providence, Raines, Ribault.
Notable: The Tigers have won six straight games since a 62-60 loss to Impact Christian, but yes, I did slide them down a spot this week. They added quality Ws over Leon (75-72) and Godby (72-68) over the holiday break. Up next is Sandalwood on Wednesday, Gainesville The Rock’s national team on Friday and Daytona Beach Mainland on Saturday. Donald Hackworth (16.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and Javion Davis (16 ppg, 4.3 rpg) both boosted their scoring production since our last Super 6. Yes, the Tigers do have that loss to Impact, but they’ve also got a win over No. 2 Providence.
3. (2) Providence (13-3, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Ga., Bolles, Impact Christian, Northside Christian, St. Augustine, Tocoi Creek, Windermere.
Notable: The Stallions went 1-1 since our last Super 6 before the and Christmas break, and I really hate to slide them down after a close loss. They beat a quality Northside Christian (56-32) and lost to Georgia Class 6A power Grayson (45-42). They return to action on Tuesday against red-hot University Christian. William Stewart (15.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg), Marvin Christie (13.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg), Ryan Gornto (12.1 ppg) and Luke Mayberry (9.1 ppg, 5.5 apg) are leading the way for the Stallions.
4. (4) Tocoi Creek (11-3, Class 6A)
Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Boca Ciega, Christian Academy-Louisville (Kentucky), Episcopal, Milton.
Notable: The Toros have gone 3-1 since our last Super 6, racking up wins over St. Raymond (61-52), Boca Ciega (82-55), Christian Academy-Louisville (46-45) and First Coast (59-32). The loss was a blowout to an always difficult Pembroke Pines Charter (68-34). The big test this week comes Saturday against University Christian. King McFadden has powered the Tocoi Creek offense this season.
5. (5) Bishop Kenny (13-2, Class 4A)
Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Creekside, Discovery, Ponte Vedra, Sandalwood.
Notable: The Crusaders have won seven straight games, including solid Ws since our last Super 6 over Discovery (61-34) and Atlantic Coast. They’ve got a big challenge on Saturday at No. 3 Providence.
6. (NR) University Christian (8-3, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Hazard (Kentucky), Nease, Pikeville (Kentucky), Ribault, Rocky Bayou Christian.
Notable: The Christians have been on a tear. They’ve won seven straight games, including a 76-74 OT win over a strong Nease team. Their big win since our last Super 6 is a 57-55 W to hand Pikeville its only loss of the season. They get the edge over Nease here. DaMarri Young-Grant (14.9 ppg), Markel Holmes (13.3 ppg), Wayne Castle (13.2 ppg) and Preston Pride (11.8 ppg) are leading the charge for UC. They’ve got Providence as their big clash on Tuesday night.
