1. (1) Ponte Vedra (11-0-2), Class 5A
Quality wins: Bartram Trail (twice), Bishop Kenny, Chiles, Creekside, Fleming Island, Fletcher, Lake Highland Prep, Niceville, St. Johns Country Day.
Notable: The Sharks won their final game of the regular season on Wednesday night with a 3-1 win over No. 2 Bartram Trail. That was their second win over the reigning state champion Bears this year (2-1 on Nov. 12). Lily Morse leads the Sharks with 12 goals (7 assists), followed by Lulu Consunji (6 goals) and Charlotte Martin (4 goals). Ponte Vedra is going to be the favorite to repeat as the state champion. The Sharks are unbeaten in their final 20 games. They’ve had big injury and graduation and early enrollment losses over the last two seasons, yet remain one of the best programs in Florida. Ponte Vedra remains the No. 1 team in the nation, according to MaxPreps.
2. (2) Bartram Trail (11-2-3), Class 6A
Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Beachside, Bishop Moore, Buchholz, Fletcher, Navarre, Spruce Creek.
Notable: The Bears dropped a 3-1 game to No. 1 Ponte Vedra on Wednesday night. Both of their losses this year have been to the Sharks, not any cause for concern. They wrap up their regular season on Friday at home against rival Creekside. Junior F Layla Davis has 14 goals to lead Bartram. Kendall Underwood follows with six goals. It’s remarkable how Bartram Trail has been able to remain this strong after losing so many high quality players.
3. (3) Creekside (8-2-2), Class 7A
Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Chiles, Fletcher, Gulf Breeze, Mandarin, Viera.
Notable: Just one game since our last Super 6, a 5-0 romp over Spruce Creek. The regular season finale arrives on Friday at Bartram Trail. Creekside’s only losses this year have come to Ponte Vedra and Lake Highland Prep. The Knights certainly have the muscle to make an extended run in the 7A state playoffs.
4. (4) Bishop Kenny (11-3), Class 4A
Quality wins: Bolles, Christ’s Church, Clay, Episcopal, P.K. Yonge, Stanton, St. Johns Country Day.
Notable: The Crusaders beat a strong Clay team 3-1 since our last Super 6. They wrap up the regular season on Friday night at Fleming Island. Freshman Shea Donovan and Stella Jones have combined for 25 goals for Kenny.
5. (5) St. Johns Country Day (11-3-3), Class 1A
Quality wins: Bolles, Clay, Episcopal, Fleming Island, Oakleaf, Providence, P.K. Yonge, Wolfson.
Notable: The Spartans beat Clay (4-0) and lost to Niceville (1-0) since our last Super 6. Zero cause for concern. St. Johns is still the team to beat in 1A. Their losses have come to Bishop Kenny, Ponte Vedra and 12-1-1 Niceville. St. Johns is really, really good. Victoria Sarka (20 goals, 10 assists), Madisyn Bauman (9 assists, 8 goals) and Calli Berang (7 goals, 12 assists) lead St. Johns offensively. Alana Mantello has racked up 16 assists.
6. (6) Beachside (9-2-2, Class 5A)
Quality wins: Fleming Island, Gulf Breeze, Mandarin, Matanzas, Nease, Tocoi Creek.
Notable: The Barracudas haven’t played since beating Middleburg on Jan. 6. They wrap up the regular season on Friday against Middleburg. Winning district is going to be an uphill battle with Ponte Vedra in there, but Beachside could easily make it to the regional finals for another potential rematch with Ponte Vedra.
