Rank, team, record, classification
1. (1) Ponte Vedra (11-0-3), Class 5A
Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Bishop Kenny, Clay, Englewood, Fletcher, Nease, St. Augustine.
Notable: The Sharks beat Clay (3-0) and Stanton (2-1) in their final two games of the regular season. Antonio Mahfuz Neto and Nick Churchill have combined for 19 goals.
2. (4) Bartram Trail (9-3-3, Class 6A)
Quality wins: Arnold, Fleming Island, Mandarin, Nease, St. Augustine.
Notable: The Bears tied Creekside (1-all) and then handled a red-hot St. Augustine (3-0) since our last Super 6. They’ve got the most impressive win among the teams in the Super 6, a 1-0 win over Arnold, which is now ranked No. 4 in the country.
3. (3) Beachside (11-2-2), Class 5A
Quality win: Englewood, Fletcher, Nease, Sandalwood, St. Augustine, Tocoi Creek
Notable: The Barracudas stayed hot, beating Nease 2-0 in their lone game since our last Super 6. Their last loss came on Nov. 17 to Fleming Island.
4. (5) Creekside (10-3-1), Class 7A
Quality wins: Fleming Island, Fletcher, Mandarin, Nease, Spruce Creek.
Notable: The Knights are back to action after Christmas break on Friday night at home against rival Bartram Trail. Sebastian Hernandez has a team-best eight goals and Luke Amman has seven.
5. (2) Mandarin (10-4-2), Class 6A
Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Chiles, Creekside, Fletcher, Nease.
Notable: The Mustangs have slipped a little bit. They’ve lost three of their last four games, including to Fletcher in the Gateway Conference semifinals on Thursday night. They’ve got some high quality Ws this year, including against teams now ranked ahead of them (Bartram, Creekside, Beachside), but the Mustangs are just 1-3-1 over the last month and have sorely missed reigning player of the year Emir Trto. Robert Calazans (24 goals, 8 assists) leads Mandarin in scoring.
6. (NR) St. Augustine (14-5-2, Class 5A)
Quality wins: Clay, Englewood, Mandarin, Matanzas, Taylor, Tocoi Creek.
Notable: The Yellow Jackets have beaten both Mandarin and previously ranked Tocoi Creek in the last two weeks to move into the Super 6. Yes, they’ve got a couple losses that are tough to look past (6-1 to Nease and 1-0 to Flagler Palm Coast), but those were in early December. Ryan Fastner and Hobbs Breidenstein have combined to score 26 goals for St. Augustine.
