1. Ponte Vedra (2-0, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Fletcher, Gulf Breeze.

Glance: Quality start for the Sharks, last year’s 2A state runner-up behind St. Thomas Aquinas. They hammered Fletcher (20-0) and raced past Gulf Breeze (9-4) in their only games so far. Ponte Vedra will play a state-heavy schedule again, facing the likes of Jupiter, Saint Andrew’s, Winter Park, Bishop Moore and Pensacola Catholic. They’ve also got big out-of-area games against Oceanside Collegiate and Wando (both SC), and Starr’s Mill and Roswell (both GA). Still wish we could get a clash with Bolles on the schedule, but not this season. The Sharks finished last season ran ked third overall in the state by the FHSAA’s ratings metrics, and second behind St. Thomas Aquinas in 2A.

2. Bolles (3-0, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Buchholz, Cardinal Mooney.

Glance: No problems at all for the Bulldogs, who have beaten two playoff teams from 2025 to open the season. Bolles should have no problems locally with the exception of perhaps Episcopal, with the biggest challenges coming against state teams like Gulf Breeze, St. Edward’s and Montverde.

3. Episcopal (1-0, Class 1A)

Notable wins: None.

Glance: The Eagles lost a boatload of scoring from last year’s 19-4 team but do bring back leading scorer Robert Adams. There are some really good early season challenges (Oak Hall, Pensacola Catholic, South Walton) that should give the Eagles an idea of where they’re at in their development.

4. Fletcher (1-1, Class 2A)

Notable win: Gulf Breeze.

Glance: The best public school team in Duval County, the Senators have a high quality 8-5 win over Gulf Breeze out of the gate. They also got waxed 20-0 in their opener against No. 1 Ponte Vedra. Three big challenges over the next week, with games at Bartram Trail, Oak Hall and Bolles.

5. Nease (1-1, Class 2A)

Notable wins: None.

Glance: The Panthers were very good a season ago, with two close losses to Ponte Vedra in three meetings, and two-goal losses to Bolles and Fletcher. They’ll slug it out with Creekside and Bartram Trail for No. 2 status in St. Johns County behind Ponte Vedra.

6. Creekside (2-1, Class 2A)

Notable wins: St. Augustine, Tocoi Creek.

Glance: Solid start for the Knights. They handled Tocoi Creek (18-5) and St. Augustine (7-3) to start the season before a loss to Bishop Moore (17-4). There’s a really challenging four-game stretch over the next week (Starr’s Mills, Maclay, Bartram Trail and Oak Hall).

On the bubble

Bartram Trail (1-0, Class 2A); Fleming Island (2-1, Class 2A); Providence (3-0, Class 1A); St. Augustine (1-1, Class 1A); Tocoi Creek (1-1, Class 2A).
