Rank, Previous, School, Record, Classification
1. (1) Trinity Christian (2-1, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Beachside, Suwannee.
Notable: The Conquerors bounced back from a loss to Creekside with a 10-1 romp over Beachside since our last Super 6. Yes, Trinity does have a loss already, and I get that other teams behind it do not. That being said, the Conquerors are still ranked nationally by three publications, and I still think they’re the best bet for a state title. The bats have been slow to come around. Great start for Tyler Ellis on the mound. He’s 2-0 with 19 Ks in just nine IP.
2. St. Johns Country Day (4-0, Class 1A)
Quality wins: Beachside, Providence, Suwannee, University Christian.
Notable: The Spartans are cooking. They added a 3-1 win over Suwannee and a 10-1 rout of previously ranked Providence since our last Super 6. They’re on the road at Savannah Islands on Friday before their next game against Lincoln on Feb. 27. Jonas Wells is hitting .455 and Brayden Harris is dealing on the bump. Harris is the area’s reigning player of the year and he is tough.
3. (3) Bishop Snyder (3-0, Class 2A)
Quality win: Fernandina Beach.
Notable: The Cardinals have a quality W over Fernandina Beach, a 4-3 win over Lincoln and an 11-0 romp over Baldwin. Big one against a good Suwannee on Friday night. Tripp Hannah (.556) is leading the Snyder regulars at the plate. This lineup is loaded. How good is Class 2A? If the Cardinals can get out of this region, watch out.
4. (4) Creekside (3-1, Class 7A)
Quality wins: Beachside, Clay, Trinity Christian.
Notable: The Knights are rolling. They’ve won three straight, including quality Ws over Beachside and Clay since our last Super 6. They also have a 2-0 win over the area’s No. 1 team.
5. (NR) Bartram Trail (3-1, Class 6A)
Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Clay, First Coast.
Notable: After a season-opening loss to Beachside, the Bears have turned it on. They’ve got three quality Ws in a row, including over Clay (12-5 in 8 innings) and Bishop Kenny (2-1) since our last Super 6. Colton McClenaghan (.500, HR, 7 RIB) is leading the Bears at the plate.
6. (5) Tocoi Creek (4-1, Class 6A)
Quality win: Bolles.
Notable: A 2-1 week for the Toros, with wins over Forest (9-0) and Father Lopez (10-3), and a 2-0 loss to Ponte Vedra. Hesitated leaving them in after that L to the Sharks. CJ McKenzie whiffed 16 in the no-hitter, while three Toros hurlers combined for 10 Ks in a three-hit loss. I’ve got Tocoi in this week ahead of Bolles, Bishop Kenny and Fernandina Beach.
