What to know if you’re running — or watching — the Gate River Run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’re running the annual Gate River Run — or just planning to be downtown — this year comes with major changes.

We’re breaking down what you need to know before race day with the help of longtime race director Doug Alred.

Start, finish lines different

Because of ongoing construction around EverBank Stadium, the start and finish lines are not in their usual spots.

Double-check your race email and the official course map so you know exactly where you need to be.

Plan for shuttles

With the start and finish separated, runners will need to use shuttles to get back and forth.

  • Know where to park
  • Know where shuttle pickup/drop-off is located
  • Build in extra time for the shuttle ride

Arrive earlier than usual

Organizers are strongly encouraging runners to get there earlier than in past years due to:

  • Traffic
  • Parking adjustments
  • Shuttle lines
  • Larger crowds navigating new logistics

If you normally cut it close, this is NOT the year to do it.

Expo has moved

The race expo is in Mandarin this year instead of downtown.

  • Pick up your bib early
  • Don’t wait until the last minute
  • Confirm location and hours before heading out

Expect road closures

Even if you’re not running, downtown traffic will be impacted.

Check detours and allow extra drive time Saturday morning.

What’s staying the same

Despite the changes:

  • It’s still one of the largest 15Ks in the country
  • The energy is electric
  • The bridges are still a challenge
  • Jacksonville pride will be on full display
