Varsity 4 Super 6 softball: West Nassau jumps to No. 2, UC joins rankings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Varsity 4 News4JAX softball Super 6 rankings will be published Thursday through the end of the regular season with the exception of a week off for spring break. Records are through March 4.

1. (1) Baker County (5-0, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Baldwin, Bishop Snyder.

Glance: The Wildcats have been clobbering teams this year. They beat Hilliard (13-0) and a quality Bishop Snyder (3-0) since our last Super 6. They’ve outscored teams by a combined 36-3 in their unbeaten start. Good stretch ahead against Middleburg, Yulee and West Nassau over the next five days. Baleigh Shields has boosted her average by 120 points since our last Super 6. She’s hitting .667 now.

2. (4) West Nassau (5-0, Class 3A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Yulee.

Glance: The Warriors notched a high quality W over Atlantic Coast (2-1) since our last Super 6. That’s a big win. Olivia Urbina is still on a tear at the plate (.667, 2 HR, 10 RIB). Teagan Harter is having a great season, too (.500, 5 RBI).

3. (6) Baldwin (5-2, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Clay, Middleburg, Yulee.

Glance: The Indians have won three straight, including solid Ws over Clay (6-2) and Middleburg (11-9) since our last Super 6. Big Gateway games against Paxon and Atlantic Coast on deck. Jazmine Ramos-Merced (.450), Lily Hubbard (.435) and Hayden Peebles (.417) are leading Baldwin at the plate.

4. (3) Atlantic Coast (5-2, Class 7A)

Notable win: Fletcher.

Glance: The Stingrays went 2-1 since our last Super 6. They hammered both Mandarin (13-3) and Oakleaf (14-0), and lost to West Nassau (2-1). Games against Middleburg, Baldwin and Creekside are up next before a break for spring. Lily Maguire (.560, 3 HR) and Emma Cano (.524) are the regulars hitting .500 or better. are hitting .571 or better. No reason to ding the Stingrays too much for a tight loss to the Wildcats.

5. (2) Episcopal (5-2, Class 2A)

Notable win: Bishop Snyder, Mandarin.

Glance: The Eagles went 2-2 since our last Super 6, losing big to IMG Academy (14-1) and Winter Springs (9-5) and beating Foundation Academy (5-4) and Fernandina Beach (22-4). Amelia Oreair (.429) and Emily Davidson (.400) are leading the Eagles.

6. (NR) University Christian (6-0, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Bishop Snyder, Fleming Island, Madison County, Sandalwood.

Glance: The Christians have stacked some solid wins, including over Snyder, Sandalwood and Fleming Island. Cassidy Morgan (.556) and Piper Tessier (.471) are among the regulars who are leading the offense. In the circle, Dixie Tessier (4-0, 27 Ks, 20 IP) has yet to allow an earned run.
