Thursday through Sunday at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach.

There is $25 million in prize money at stake, including $4.5 million to the winner.

Rory McIlroy is the reigning champion. He beat JJ Spaun in a three-hole aggregate playoff on a wind-whipped Monday last year. He became just the eighth golfer to win The Players more than once.

The history

The tournament moved to different locations in its first three years before settling into Sawgrass Country Club (1977-81) across the road from the current location. It moved to TPC Sawgrass in 1982 and has been played on the Stadium Course every year since.

Course record

Greg Norman shot a 24-under 264 in 1994.

All eyes on

McIlroy, of course, will be a star attraction. So will two-time champion Scottie Scheffler, who became the only golfer in tournament history to win back-to-back Players titles (2023-24). A win by Scheffler would move him into a tie with Jack Nicklaus as the only golfers to win The Players three times. Nicklaus won in 1974 (Atlanta Country Club), ’76 (Inverrary Golf & Country Club) and ’78 (Sawgrass Country Club) long before the event moved to its current home at TPC Sawgrass.
