EWU women’s basketball making history by playing in NCAA Division II tournament for 1st time

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edward Waters University’s women’s basketball team is making history this week.

The Tigers are competing in the NCAA Division II tournament for the first time.

EWU headed to Alabama Wednesday morning for the tournament.

The Tigers are taking on the University of Alabama in Huntsville in the first round of the tournament on Friday.

This is the Tigers’ second season playing in Division II.

The team has a 23-5 record, which includes winning 21 games in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The 23 wins and counting are the most EWU has ever had. The Tigers won 14 of their last 15 games.

EWU has the best defense in the country as the Tigers are holding their opponents to an average of 50.4 points per game.

They won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East title and are ranked No. 22 nationally.

Tip-off for the Tigers and the University of Alabama in Huntsville is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
