1. (2) Trinity Christian (14-5, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Beachside, Columbia, Edmond Memorial (Okla.), Lincoln, Lowndes (Ga.), Magnolia Heights (Miss.), North Marion, Richmond Hill (Ga.), St. Johns Country Day, Suwannee, Tocoi Creek, University Christian, West Broward.
Notable: The Conquerors went 5-2 since our last Super 6, including high quality Ws over Columbia (4-1), Magnolia Heights (4-3), West Broward (5-1) and Edmond Memorial (4-3), the latter coming in the prestigious NHSI tourney in Cary, NC. The losses came to Tampa Jesuit and Orange Lutheran, California. Competition matters, and the Conquerors have played the most rugged schedule around. Gage Petrutz (.467, 3 HR, 15 RBI) continues to lead the offense. Aiden Arnett (.362) and Parker Loew (.317, 3 HR, 16 RBI) remain right behind Petrutz in batting. Trinity has gotten the big swings going. The Conquerors have 21 homers, including a moonshot by Ethan Wheeler in the NHSI. He and Jordan Martinez both have four homers. The Conquerors have just two local losses, 2-0 to Creekside and 4-3 to St. Johns Country Day.
2. (2) Bishop Snyder (14-3, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Bolles, Central (Ala.), Farragut (Tennessee), Fernandina Beach, Hartselle (Ala.), Morgan County (Ga.), Newnan (Ga.), Providence, Sandalwood, South Walton, Suwannee.
Notable: The Cardinals went 4-2 since our last Super 6, with losses to West Broward (2-0) and Columbia (3-1). They added quality Ws over South Walton, Hartselle and Bolles. Ilias Mamea (.400, 2 HR, 11 RBI) and Tanner Upton (.392, 12 RBI) are leading the offense for Snyder. Cole Dennis (5-1, 1.15 ERA, 61 Ks) and Cody Boshell (2-1, 1.75 ERA, 40 Ks) are eating up the innings. Jack Rauch (4-0, 0.00 ERA, 21 Ks) has yet to allow an earned run. The Cardinals’ only local loss has been to Columbia.
3. (4) Creekside (17-3, Class 7A)
Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Bolles, Clay, Hagerty, North Marion, St. Joseph, Tocoi Creek, Trinity Christian, West Orange, Windermere (twice).
Notable: The Knights are cooking. They’re on a six-game winning streak heading into a Friday game against Winter Park. Some solid Ws in that span, too, including a pair over Windermere, and wins over Hagerty and West Orange. Dominic Cantona (.345, 2 HR, 16 RBI) and Aramis Guanchez (.328) lead the offense. On the mound, Gavin Duprey has 60 Ks in 40 IP and an 0.70 ERA. Matt Bysheim (40 Ks in 37.1 IP, 1.88 ERA) is right behind Duprey in mound dominance.
4. (3) St. Johns Country Day (14-4, Class 1A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Beachside, Clay, Flagler Palm Coast, Providence, Sandalwood, Suwannee, Trinity Christian, University Christian, West Broward, Winter Park
Notable: The Spartans cranked out a 6-1 record since our last Super 6, a much-needed jolt after entering the break on a three-game skid. Some quality Ws, too, including over Sandalwood (5-0), West Broward (8-0), FPC (4-3), Baldwin (2-1) and Clay (3-2). Madden Williams (.383, 2 HR, 13 RBI) and Hunter Rodgers (.354, 2 HR, 12 RBI) lead the bats. Brayden Harris remains elite on the mound (5-1, 70 Ks, 37.2 IP, 1.67 ERA). Conflicted about moving them down but that’s just how things worked out this week.
5. (5) Fernandina Beach (15-3, Class 3A)
Quality wins: Baker County, Baldwin (twice), Bishop Kenny, First Coast, Sandalwood, Trinity Catholic, Union County, West Nassau.
Notable: The Pirates went 5-1 since our last Super 6, the best W coming against Trinity Catholic (4-3). They also had a 3-1 loss to St. Augustine. Trace Farmer continues to lead the Pirates offensively (.489, 2 HR, 19 RBI).
6. (NR) Bartram Trail (11-7, Class 6A)
Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Bolles, Clay, Columbia, Episcopal, First Coast, Ponte Vedra, Spruce Creek, St. Augustine.
Notable: This was the most difficult call of the week. The Bears had a six-game losing streak in the middle of the season, including a rough 3-0 loss to a 5-13 Fletcher. But they have wins over the other teams I considered for this spot, including Bolles, Episcopal and Columbia. The separator for me was a 4-1 win over Spruce Creek last month. The Hawks are 16-3 and one of the best teams in 7A. Cases can be made for Sandalwood and Providence, too.
