JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sandalwood High School graduate Jadon Canady became the first local player off the board on the final day of the NFL draft, going to the Chiefs in the fourth round on Saturday.

Canady, the All-News4JAX player of the year in 2020, was the 109th overall pick by Kansas City. He joins another local defensive back, Trinity Christian’s Chamarri Conner, in the secondary there.

Canaday signed with Tulane out of Sandalwood before transferring to Ole Miss and then Oregon.

Canady was elite in his senior season in high school, picking off 10 passes, a number that was among the most in the country. In his redshirt senior season with Oregon, Canady played in 13 games and had a couple interceptions.

He’s the first Sandalwood player to be selected in the NFL draft since defensive back Ameer Speed (sixth round, 2023). Canady becomes the second-highest Saints player drafted after edge DeMarcus Walker, who went 51st to the Texans in 2017.

Two other local players, Mandarin’s Carson Beck (65th to Arizona) and Trinity Christian’s Austin Barber (86th to the Browns) were selected on Friday night.
