- Sunday was Travis Hunter Day. Hunter made a great interception off a bad throw from Nick Mullens. It was into triple coverage, but Hunter made the move to read it and go get the ball. Hunter also had a great catch on a deep shot from Trevor Lawrence. Hunter looks ready to go! And ready to make plays on both sides of the football.
- Defensive Player of the Day: BJ Green. The second-year guy was all over the field. He had a sack, a tackle for loss, and he pancaked Brenton Strange. The play with Strange was probably the most impressive of them all. Josh Hines-Allen didn’t participate in some of the team portions of practice, and Green was the guy who got the bump up to the first team. He looked right at home.
- Yasir Abdullah got in on a sack on Lawrence during a team period. Abdullah doesn’t get talked about nearly enough; he has been a mainstay on the roster since being drafted.
- Another day to chop wood and carry water. At some point, there has to be a day where Parker Washington doesn’t make a great play, right? Well, today isn’t that day. Parker caught a nice touchdown from Trevor Lawrence. He got loose behind the defense and made a sliding catch in the end zone. He is just so good.
- CJ Williams is starting to really stack some good days. Williams seems to make a big catch every day. This time, it was a shot play down the field with Travis Hunter in coverage. Williams was an unknown, but he is a name that people are going to learn quickly because all he does is make plays.
- Anton Harrison spent another day at left tackle. This is back-to-back practices where he spent the day on their left side. This is worth watching because this could be a big domino on the O-line. If Harrison moves to the left side, that opens the door for movement on the right side. Right now, Wyatt Milum is still taking the majority of team reps at right guard as they ease Patrick Mekari back in. But Mekari can play anywhere along the line. If they like what they see from Milum, I wouldn’t close the door on Mekari being the right tackle until Cole Van Lanen is back healthy and ready to go.
- Chris Rodriguez got his first action in team drills. Good sign for C Rod. He told us earlier this week he will be ready to go for Week 1. But this means we could also see him on Monday when the Jags go full pads for the first time. That is when hopefully we can get a better feel for the running game.
- Got a chance to catch up with Robert Hainsey after practice. I asked him about the interior of the defensive line. He has spent most of camp so far going against the second-team guys, and he said: “I like the depth they are going to have.” He pointed out Ruke Orhorhoro, Wesley Williams and Albert Regis. He described Regis as strong and tough to move.
