JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Liam Coen liked what he saw from the Jaguars at training camp on Wednesday morning.
Jacksonville ran and threw the ball well in a spirited joint practice with the Panthers, flashing the consistency that Coen wanted to see. The Jaguars came out of the day relatively pleased with their work on both sides of the ball as they head towards Friday night’s second preseason game against Carolina.

“I thought today was a good step in the right direction in terms of running a football and getting stuff targeted and communicated the right way. I was pleased with the way the backs were hitting the holes,” Coen said.
“I was pleased with at least the line of scrimmage at times. They’ve got some guys up front that I have a lot of respect for on their D-line, and I thought our guys played hard.”
Both sides of the ball had their flashes. The push from the starting defensive front was strong enough to force Carolina’s Bryce Young out of the pocket on multiple plays.
Coen said he wasn’t sure if starters would play in Friday night’s second preseason game.
“I’m not sure. I got to see how we came out of today. I don’t want to say either way yet. I really got to go look at this tape, see how we kind of come out of it. I’ll make probably a decision over the next 24 hours,” he said.

Trevor Lawrence had five touchdown passes and came away content with how the offense played as a whole.
“I felt like we got a lot out of today, yeah. I felt like it was really productive. Was it perfectly clean, no. There’s a lot of stuff to work on and we have to improve on,” he said. “I have to improve on, but as far as just the competition, the competitiveness, the back and forth that always feels game-like.”
Injuries have crept up on Jacksonville over the past week. Receiver Parker Washington, running back LeQuint Allen and offensive linemen Chuma Edoga and Wyatt Milum remain out through this week. Multiple media outlets reported this week that Patrick Mekari underwent back surgery. The team reportedly made a deal for Giants offensive lineman Daniel Faalele on Tuesday. Jacksonville hasn’t announced the trade but is reportedly sending New York a Day 3 pick in the 2027 draft.
Coen said Jacksonville has to balance getting valuable game reps with the health of the team.
“Yeah, I don’t want to necessarily go out there with not your full group, right? The whole point of it is to try to get more continued continuity and chemistry and some game experience. So, I’m just not quite sure yet,” he said.

Notebook
- Chippy day of work. Offense got into a fight after the first play of the day.
- Former Gators quarterback Feleipe Franks had a couple of touchdown catches playing as Carolina’s tight end. Jaguars rookie safety Jalen Huskey also leveled Franks after a short catch following his first TD grab.
- Travis Hunter played well in coverage, including a leaping pass breakup on the sidelines on a pass intended for David Moore. Hunter closed rapidly on the pass and made a giant leap to knock it away.
- The Jaguars defensive line looked very good. Arik Armstead, Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker pressured Carolina QB Bryce Young consistently when they were rushing. Players weren’t allowed to tackle quarterbacks, but Young would have been sacked at least four times by those players if the game was live.
- Ezra Clevland spent another day at right guard. With rookie Emmanuel Pregnon at left guard, Cleveland looked good he was moving people.
- CJ Williams made a nice catch between two defenders for a TD.
- It was a good day for the Jags tight ends. Brenton Strange, Tanner Koziol and Nate Boerkircher all caught touchdowns. Koziol dropped a defender on another catch, and so did Hunter Long.
- Former Fernandina Beach High School and Trinity Christian Academy star Cam Miller returned to the area as a member of the Panthers. Miller was an undrafted free agent and signed with Carolina.
- It was a thud and the play was over practice but Bhayshul Tuten ripped off a run that would have been a touchdown if they were playing touch football. He got outside, put a move on the defender and turned on the jets.
- The offense started the day on fire but did loose a little steam at the end of practice. Overall, a really positive day from the Jaguars offense.
