Heat Advisory Extends Across Northeast Florida And Southeast Georgia

Record-breaking morning lows highlight persistent heat wave

The Heat Advisory continues for northeast Florida and portions of southeast Georgia through 8 p.m. Late-day showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along the State line and then slowly push south.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Thursday

Another round of record warm minimum temperatures was recorded yesterday.

A record warm minimum temperature was set at Craig Municipal Airport Tuesday morning. The low reached 79 degrees, breaking the previous record of 78 degrees set in 2005.

Alma, Georgia also set a record with a morning low of 78, two degrees warmer than the 76 degrees set in 2021.

Additionally, due to the strong and severe storms, Gainesville broke a daily wind gust record with a 48 mph gust, breaking the old record of 45 mph set in 2002.

Showers and thunderstorms will be possible across northeast Florida from late afternoon through sunset.

The summer pattern continues with triple-digit Heat Indices and afternoon thunderstorms through Saturday. Locally heavy rain, gusty wind and lightning remain the main hazards.

In the tropics: Tropical activity is not expected. The GFS continues to show potential development in the Atlantic later this week or weekend while the EURO remains quiet.

Tonight: Heat Advisory through 8 p.m. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through early evening.

Thursday: Heat Advisory 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Heat indices up to 110 degrees. Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly over northeast Florida, 30-50 percent. Morning lows in the 70s to low 80s. Afternoon highs in the 90s inland, upper 80s to low 90s along the beaches. Wind: SW/SE 5-10 mph.

Friday - Saturday: Heat Advisory possible Friday. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms daily, 50-70 percent. Morning lows in the 70s with highs in the mid to upper 90s inland, upper 80s to 90s along the beaches. Wind: SSW 5 -10 mph.

Looking ahead: Temperatures return to near-seasonal Sunday with slightly cooler temperatures next week.
